Laps got boring after a while. Back and forth, back and forth. Ariel did not have the attention span for that today. So after doing her designated laps she had grabbed the coins from her backpack and thrown them into the side of the pool that did not have the channels. Then she quickly tightened her braid and put on her goggles before jumping into the pool without looking for where the coins were.
It was a good way of practicing holding her breath and observation. Not very practical but oh well. She swam towards the first coin and felt a presence behind her. She put herself flat against the pool floor grabbing the coin before going up. She didn't want to interfere with someones practice.

Goliath had walked into the pool with his back full of new school books since school was over and he needed a quiet place to work. He had thought that people would be gone and he would be alone which now a days he preferred it that way. When he sat down however he noticed a rather pretty Red head swimming in the pool that didn't have channels. It looked like she was diving for pennies. Goliath just sighed and gave a small wave to not be rude and then pulled out his fantasy English school book and flipped it to the section on Mythical creatures. He happened upon the section about mermaids and let his eyes wander to the girl. She reminded him of a mermaid. He saw her look at him and let his hair fall over his face.
"Hello, I am sorry if I am a distraction."
He said in a deep almost scary voice. As he looked at her the glow from the water seemed to make his dark brown eyes glow themselves. He just looked down at his book. He frowned because he was beginning to miss having people around him. He every so often while flipping through the pages he looked back at the girl softly until he got to the page of the Gargoyles. He then inhaled hard that sounded like a soft growl and decided to speak again.
"So...What's your name?"

Ariel saw the boy as she came up and swam silently to the side of the pool to observe. She liked to watch people. See how they worked, what made them tick. She stayed silent, shaking her head at his words, unsure if he had heard. His voice was deep, but revealed an inner pain. He was incredibly absordbed in this book. Ariel tried to see what it was but wasn't sure.
He seemed to be ignoring her which Ariel did not like. She liked people talking to her, noticing her. But not in a self absorbed way. She thought of splashing him but thought better of it. It would ruin the book he was reading and would not cause her to get any good attention. She observed for a few more minutes, growing bored. She was about to turn away when he asked her name.
"I'm Ariel, what's your name?" She was curious about him. He seemed lonely, and hurt. She wanted to comfort him in some way but was unsure of how.

Goliath just put down his book and looked down at the woman who had just revealed her name as Ariel. He stood up and walked over to the edge of the pool with a towel and then crouched down and gently offered it. His eyes were cold and emotionless except for the small spark of what seemed like interest for the young Mermaid like girl. He just sat the towel down and just looked at her. Her curiosity is what drew him in. He found himself holding out his hand to help her out or to shake her hand. His face beginning to show more wonder.
"My name's Goliath. Your a beautiful swimmer. You remind me of a mermaid. My...My family once told stories of Mythical creatures. It is where I adopted my name. Goliath was a Biblical Giant warrior of a monster of the night. After...a certain event..."
Goliath then cut himself off as he felt tears beginning to swell in his eyes. He quickly brushed them off and kept his hand held out.
"Would you like..to talk..while you warm up? You may borrow my Jacket."
Goliath began to actually feel warm on the inside for the first time as he gazed upon the beautiful soaking wet red headed water creature. Without his knowledge he had begun to actually smile. The mermaid was Eroding the Gargoyles heart of stone.

Ariel took his warm hand for a second to shake. It was big against her incredibly small long fingered hands. She took his hand in both of hers as he spoke to her. She rubbed her thumb over his hand in attempt to comfort him. She could tell he was upset. Whatever was in his past was the cause of the pain. "Thank you..." she said "I always loved mermaids, I read many stories of them when I was little." She realized she couldn't get out while holding his hand "One second.. If you attempt to pull me out, you will come in with me." She released his hand for a second missing the warmth instantly. She didn't know what it was about him but he was so warm, yet hard like stone. It was such a comforting feeling.
Ariel pulled herself out of the pool and grabbed the towel wrapping it around her. She felt naked in front of him for some reason. She was in her normal green bikini but she still felt naked. The towel covered her mostly but when he offered the jacket she nodded. "Thank you." She quickly put on the jacket which felt, and smelled like him. She then moved closer to him and leaned her head on him hoping to comfort him. "It will be ok... I promise." She looked up at him unsure of why she was comforting a guy she had just met. She smiled at him and said. "You are named after a warrior, you must be strong." She smiled at him. "And my name means Lion so I'm not lyin'"

Goliath blushed as she should his warm hand with her cold one and then got out of the pool and he saw that she was in a very cute Green bikini. He gulped as she put his jacket on and then sat next to him and leaned on his causing him to blush. He slowly put his arm around her his hand shaking as he put it on her arm.
"Your freezing. We need to get you into some dry clothes soon Ariel."
He blushed looking over her cute figure and saw that her wet hair was hanging over her face so he gently took his shaking nervous hand and tucked the hair behind her ear gently. He could smell her natural scent through the chlorine and she smelled nice. He bit his lip and decided to speak once she finished.
"Your right..I am..or was I guess. So..Why are you here all alone Ariel, Someone like me are the ones that are alone not you. How about..."
He then gulped nervously and began breathing heavy as he gently stroked her arm and decided to blurt it out.
"How about..You and I go get lunch or something after you dry off? You can keep wearing the jacket I don't care...If you really like it..you could keep it for awhile."

Ariel turned as red as her hair as he put his arm around her. She was not quite used to the attention from guys. She had so many sisters it was her who was usually ignored. She hadn't even noticed the cold or felt it with his arm around her. She didn't want to move and get dressed so she said nothing, instead moving closer. She felt his hand tucking her hair behind her ear and looked up at him with her big eyes.
His words startled her "I was just practicing....." she said "But...." she took a breathe. "... but nobody should be alone. I believe that. No matter what you think you've done wrong.." she took his hand again as he began to stroke her arm. It sent shivers down her spine and she shook slightly.
"I like the jacket...if you wait 5 minutes I can get dressed. We could walk down to town together...That sound good? " She clutched at the jacket. "It smells so nice... if that doesn't sound too creepy.... I'll give you something for it...." she smiled an idea in her mind. She wanted to go with him and yet didn't want to leave his warm strong arms.

Goliath smiled as she scooted close to him. He didn't want to let her go. He listen to her say that no one should be alone. She was right but yet he still felt alone. He listened to her say that if he waited till she changed clothes they could go out. His eyes went wide and he nodded. He slowly removed his arm from hers and smiled at her and tightened the jacket around her.
"You don't need to give me anything my little mermaid."
He smiled at what he called her as he waited for her. He could tell she liked him and he liked her. He just smiled at her gently his body hot from nervousness which caused his heart to almost out of his chest. He just nodded when she said the thing about going to town.
"Going to town sounds just fine. Just go change and we can go to town and make a night of it OK?"
He then just smiled and quickly kissed her cheek and motioned for her to go as he quickly packed up his things.

Ariel got up slowly missing being close to him instantly. The kiss on the cheek sent sparks through her. She wanted more. "Okay" she was about to walk to the locker room when she made a gut decision. She turned back and kissed him quickly and softly on the lips. She ran away towards the locker room, careful not to slip. She didn't want him to see her face.
She grabbed her cute short blue and black dress from her locker and a bow for her hair and slipped into her flats. Looking at her reflection she stopped. She was bright red and her eyes were sparkling. She had never felt like this. She'd been one to like boys but they never liked her back. One had even liked her sister over her. She couldn't wait to see his face again, be within his arms. It was an innocent thing but it was what she wanted.
She realized something as she tossed on some of her lipbalm and grabbed her bag. That was her first kiss. It was well worth it. She felt silly for having done it herself but maybe that was who she was. The one who went after it and didn't wait for the prince to save her.
