Ozzy stormed down the hall, bag slung over his arm and sunglasses over his eyes. He had his usual scowl and he was walking quite fast. He said nothing but his mind was racing with thoughts of anger and rage. He had just had a meeting to work on articles for the school paper and THAT ANNOYING THING had shown up. All she did was jabber on and squeak and Ozzy's head was pounding. He had finally stormed out. He just wanted to go back to his room and pass out. He was exhausted and the last of his energy had been zapped keeping his cool around the munchkin.
He was almost at the exit when the lights flickered and went out. Ozzy continued walking, not caring about the lights. He preferred the dark anyway. He reached the doors and went to open them. But they were locked. Ozzy continued to push on them, hoping they would loosen and open or something but it was useless. He was locked into the school building in the dark. At least it seemed he was alone.
Walking over to a wall, Ozzy let his body slide down it. He finally reached the floor and brought his knees up. He took out his ipod from his pocket and was about to play music when a high pitched voice broke through the silence that Ozzy had been enjoying eternally. His face dropped once more and he almost cried. The runt had gotten stuck in the hallways with him? He silently hoped there was a door between them so he didn't have to see or hear or deal with her but he knew it wouldn't be that way and he'd be trapped with her. Since when had lady luck EVER been on his side. He cursed out the blackness and the locks but remained silent. He hoped if he stayed silent she;d never see him. But like he already knew, it wasn't likely either.

Mini was in such a cheerful mood today. It had all started when she had gotten up this morning and had some lucky charms and chocolate milk. The cafeteria had given her a twisty straw. It was EPIC. She had drunk all of her chocolate milk and was giggling the whole time. Then she'd gone to her classes. They were all so much fun. And she got to answer questions and feel smart and do all this great stuff. The teachers had even all given her errands once she answered 3 questions in a row right. It was like a reward!! She got to talk to everyone and skip through the hallways. It was so much fun.
This afternoons meeting for the newspaper was super fun too. She'd gotten to hang with her bff Ozzy. He was such a gloomy pants. Mini had made it her mission to make him smile and have fun. Nobody should be a gloomy pants. He was especially a gloomy pants today and had left the meeting early. Maybe he had girly time? She had heard some guys saying they had cramps and were cranky. Anyway, then she'd gone to look in some of the science rooms to take pictures. It had been super fun. There were all these pretty bottles and chemicals and stuff. She knocked one over. "Whoops" she said and ran away.
She stopped in the middle of a hallway to catch her breath when the lights went out. "Oh my...." She couldn't see a thing. She took out her phone and turned on the light and continued to skip down the hallway. Oh well. The dark didn't scare her. Why should it? It's only the dark. Only scary things are there. "Oh dear.." she said suddenlty frightened. She looked around and saw a lump in the hallway. An Ozzy shaped lump.
She decided to be really sneaky and tiptoe up over to him. Then she realized her bag was jingling, and she had the light from the phone. OH NO! There goes the surprise. She said "BOO" even though there was no point because he had heard her. Oh well. She sat down on the floor next to him and moved her feet back and forth the little bells on her yellow keds jingling.

Kimberley Anne Peters walked through the hallway of the school, glad she had made cheerleading captain for the year. She had been the captain of her school in Middleton, but her parents had decided to send her to school here for some reason unknown to her. Her brothers were too young, according to her parents, anyway, to come to Yen Sid Academy, but she didn't know if they would change their minds or not.
Her footsteps echoed on the floor as she made her way to where she needed to be. Suddenly, the lights went out. There was nobody else around when the black out began, so she began trying the doors. They were all locked. Kim sighed and continued down the hall, wondering if anyone else was stuck in the same predicament as she was. She heard a girl's voice a few doors in front of her and she followed it.
"Hello," she called down the hall, waiting for a reply. The darkness made her uncomfortable and slightly paranoid. Anyone who decided to touch her would, most likely, end up in a world of pain, though it wouldn't be Kim's conscious decision.

Ozzy's mood dropped like a boulder as Mini sat down next to him. He had been trying to avoid this pest all day and she kept finding him. Just his luck. He thought about telling her to go away but knew it was useless. One, they were stuck in a piece of hallway together and two, she always assumed he was joking since they were 'such good friends'.
Ozzy rolled his eyes at the thought. He had always wanted friends but had become so used to being alone that he didn't know how to react to undesired friends anymore. He just wanted to be alone. Why couldn't the pest just leave him alone?!
Ozzy was about to put his headphones in once again when he heard another voice, this one unfamiliar, calling out. Ozzy's mood lifted a bit at the possibility of another person to keep him from killing Mini. He called back, "We're down here. Look for the light." Ozzy than lifted up his iPod and pointed it down the hall, hoping the person attached to this other voice would show up soon. He could only take a few more seconds of Mini before his hands ended up around her puny neck, wringing it. For Mini's sake, this girl had to hurry.

There was a voice a little further up the hallway and a light from a cell phone or something. "Thank goodness I'm not alone." Kim's footsteps echoed down the hallway as she ran towards the light. Her tennis shoes squealed as she came to a stop in front of it. The light she saw wasn't from a cell. It was from an i-pod. She smiled at the two. "Hi. I'm Kimberly Anne Peters. I'm still pretty new here."
She looked the girl over. "Oh, you're Minerva. You're my new roommate, or... I'm actually YOUR new roommate, but what does it matter?" she asked. She hadn't been in the dormitory much, so she hadn't socialized with Mini much, but she had seen her around the school enough to know who she was.
The other boy, however, she didn't even know the name of. She had seen him too, but he didn't seem like much of a socialite. He hadn't introduced himself, nor had he talked to anyone while she was around, so she hadn't heard his name on accident. "I don't believe I know your name, though."

Mini waved excitedly at the other girl as she walked down the hallway. Yipee it was Kim!! A roommate. She'd gone through a bunch of roommates so far. She wondered how long this girl would last. Her and roommates didn't seem to work. She had now idea why. She was so nice to them, and made sure they were happy all the time. But nevertheless she'd had a lot of them. "HI KIM! How did you sleep last night? I haven't seen you in the room much. It is so sad. We need to bond, roomie to roomie. Doesn't that sound amazing?!"
She looked around at the dark and said "I am not sure why it's so dark but maybe with a flashlight we can have fun." Bouncing up and down while she was seated she thought of all these fun things we could do. "There is no reason to sit here and think about it being dark and us trapped but we can have fun." She held her light under face "We could tell ghost stories." Then she made a shadow puppet with the light "We could make shadow puppets and have fun. Oh there are so many things we could do. It will be ever so much fun."
Oh No! Kim didn't know Ozzy. How was that possible? She made sure to introduce herself to everyone. Why shouldn't everyone else do the same. Nevertheless she figured they should meet. "This is Ozzy. He's a sad bunny. So I like to cheer him up." Kim was a nice person. She was a cheerleader with attitude. It was actually kinda cool.

Ozzy was getting ready to rip his own head off to shut Mini up. He was glad Kim was here but it still didn't seem to be shutting that mousy voice up. If anything it had made her worse. WHY WOULDN'T SHE SHUT UP AND LEAVE HIM ALONE! Ozzy silently cursed himself out for not having a roll of handy dandy duct tape and a strong rope with him so he could tie her up and stick her in a closet or something. It might be wrong but it sure was effective. He made a mental note to start carrying both in his bag for future needs and pests. But for now, he had neither and so the motorboat of high pitched words continued.
Ozzy stood and walked over to Kim. He held out his hand and said in his low and quiet voice, "Nice to meet you. As the mouse there said I'm Ozzy." A frown never left his face as he said this and than he leaned in near Kim's ear and whispered quiet enough Mini couldn't hear, "Please tell me there's an off switch mate. There's gotta be a way to shut the girl up right? Anything?!"
Ozzy had never been one to beg but he was desperate. He had been trying, unsuccessfully, to avoid her all day but she seemed to stalk him almost. He couldn't shake her and he certainly had no clue how to shut her up. She was like the annoying talking toy after it broke and once it no longer stopped playing an annoying tune. The difference was you threw the toy away when it got too annoying to keep around anymore. Mini was harder to get rid of, at least until he got his rope an duct tape. Than it would be a different story.
Ozzy removed his sunglasses and looked pleadingly at Kim. Anyone who knew Ozzy knew he never took his glasses off. You could tell he was serious and was at his wits end with her. If Kim didn't come up with something he would lose it and he truly hoped she could help. She was his last hope at sanity and silence.

Kim stared at Mini for a moment. This girl never shut up, did she? She was very friendly, and Kim couldn't help but like her, but sometimes she just needed a chill pill. "Maybe we should go shopping, or something. Later this week, maybe?" she offered Mini, smiling.
"Hi, I'm Kim," she nodded at Ozzy and gave a small laugh at his desperate whispers. "I'm not exactly sure, but there has to be a way or else the batteries would have already died."
"Mini..." Kim started, but noticed that she was still jumping around. "Mini... MINERVA!" she said. "It is so NOT the drama. Maybe he just needs quiet. Like when girls go to a spa? Nice, relaxing quiet should cheer the 'sad bunny' right up." Ozzy was looking surprisingly desperate right now. Apparently, she had missed a lot.

Mini liked that idea. She liked the mall. Clothes were awesome and that meant she could get more cute things to wear. "Sure that sounds great" she said in her normal voice.
"Oh... I'm sorry Ozzy.... I didn't know you needed quiet. I'll be quiet now" she whispered. She sat on the floor bouncing her head humming at first, then realizing she was still talking, silently to the music that was stuck in her head, completely silent for about 4 minutes. She didn't like the silence but if it made Ozzy happy. She didn't want to make him mad.
She hoped he would end this silence and be happy soon. She couldn't stand it. She was going CRAZY!!

Ozzy couldn't help but smirk when Kim made a comment about the batteries running out. Unless they're rechargable and recharge when she sleeps... if she sleeps he thought to himself as Kim managed to do the impossible- shut Mini up. Ozzy was in awe. It was a miracle and Ozzy never believed in anything good. Kim had saved him from ripping his own head off.
Ozzy sighed deeply and sank further into his spot on the floor. He was taking in the silence. He still had a frown on his face as that was natural for him but his face looked less pained and more at ease. He decided that since the three of them were stuck there, maybe they'd all like to listen to some music. And so he unplugged his skull headphones and began playing some classic blues, just loud enough for all three of them to hear.
As much as Ozzy was getting along with Kim and thankful that Mini had shut her trap, he still wanted to go back to his dorm. He hoped the electricity would come back on soon but didn't get his hopes too high. After all, how often did good things happen around him, let alone twice in one day.

Mini had quieted down, but it took a moment. From the looks of it, Minerva wasn't really handling the silence well and the pain was written on her face. She was far too impatient, but Kim had known worse. At her last school, there was a girl who never shut up, and was always wanting to be the center of attention. Mini was nothing like that.
Ozzy, on the other hand, still looked grumpy. He had a frown on his face that never seemed to leave. Yet he seemed much more comfortable, so she assumed she had done her job well. Kim shifted so that she was lying on her stomach and rested her chin in her hands. Now it was uncomfortably quiet. Thankfully, Ozzy had decided to put music on and broke the tension.
When were the lights supposed to come back on? It seemed to be taking forever, though that was partially due to the silence. It seemed to make everything last longer. How could Ozzy stand it? The only reason it should be THIS quiet was when you were going to sleep. Kim sighed and drummed her fingers against her jaw. It didn't make any noise, but it showed how restless she was. Almost as much as Mini, if someone could believe it.

Mini began to rock back and forth biting her lip. She wanted to talk. She NEEDED to talk. How do people just sit there quietly and say nothing. It's not like anyone else was talking. It was just quiet. Oh my god she needed to talk. She could feel the silence eating away at her slowly. It was like ants, they just nibble at first, just one. Then more and more come until you are covered in the little tiny insects. That is what the silence was like. Ants. She couldn't take it.
Maybe if the lights turned on it would stop. Maybe that would happen. But, maybe, the lights were not going to come on if someone didn't make them come on. She saw a light switch on the wall. It was on. But maybe it was like the ones at home. Maybe if she just fiddled with it, maybe yell at it, it would work.
She got up and went to the lightswitch and began to fiddle with it moving it up and down. She had to talk to it. "Light. I want you to turn on. This is ridiculous. We are sitting here in the dark hallway, trapped because of you. Why don't you just turn on and we can have fun. Please" She flipped it. "Pretty Please?" She flipped it again. A second later the lights flickered on and the doors unlocked.
In reality the two were unconnected but Mini felt a great sense of joy. SHE had done it. She jumped up and down. "The lights are on!! The lights are on!!!" She ran over to bunny and hugged him "THE LIGHTS ARE ON!!" She then skipped down the hallway and out of sight singing that the lights were on.

Ozzy blinked back spots from his eyes as the lights came back on. Only than did he see Kim for the first time. His heart began thumping in a way he could not identify as he looked at her. He had liked her quite a lot just for being able to shut Mini up and for being so nice to him, even for noticing him. But now he saw her beauty and her odd smile and so much more. She was lovely and his heart seemed to be trying to tell him something. He wondered if this was what love felt like. No wonder everyone reacted the way they did when it happened to them. He'd never felt love quite like this and he both liked the feeling and was freaked out by it.
Ozzy struggled not to stare but didn't wan't to just leave. He stood up and grabbed his bag, sticking his Ipod back in his pocket as he did. He felt so awkwardly tall again. It had never bothered him before but how could a lovely girl like Kim like a tall skinny emo boy like himself. He stood no chance. He let the idea sink in before he spoke, his voice quiet and a bit shaky. "Nice meeting you. Sorry for the lights... and the silence... and Mini. I guess I'll see you around."
Ozzy went to leave but turned back to Kim and uttered one more thing. "Maybe we can... I don't know. Maybe we can hang out sometime. Yea... Ok than. Bye. Ozzy was thankful for his sunglasses as it would be impossible for Kim to tell that he was looking at the floor the whole time. He turned on his heels and began striding down the hall towards the exit and in the direction of his dorm. He didn't know what he would do when he got there but he knew he wanted to be there, in the safety of his room. Maybe than he could think straight and figure out his feelings and what he thought of Kim.
When Ozzy reached his room, he began writing and writing, trying to figure everything out. This would continue deep into the night and all the while Kim remained in his thoughts. All he knew was that he had the blackout to thank for this mess. And what a mess it had been.

"Mini? Girl, I don't think that's going to-" Kim started, just as the lights came on. She stared, shocked, at Mini, who was rejoicing. Had she really managed to flip the switch? OR was it pure coincidence that they came on while she was flipping. Either way, she was thankful they were on. She watched as Mini bounded down the halls, her usual self. She was obviously ecstatic that she wasn't being forced down.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes and glance back at Ozzy. "So, she's always like this, huh?" she laughed before standing up and pulling the strap of her bag over her head. She looked up at Ozzy when he spoke to her. He was about six or so inches taller than her. Was he apologizing? She bit the bottom of her lip, trying not to laugh at his awkwardness. She had to admit he was rather cute in a quiet, loner sort of way. She didn't even have time to speak before he was gone. Instead, she watched him walk away with a smile on her face before heading to... wherever.
