Personality: Emily is one of those fun, quirky teachers who tries to make a class as fun as possible. She isn't stern so as not to hinder her students' individuality and creativity. She's likely to be seen sitting in her spinning chair with her feet perched on her desk, lost in a good book. She's fairly young, so she lacks the experience of the older faculty, and sometimes it shows when she refuses to discipline her students. She doesn't like discipline, but she's such a fun person to be around, that it's rarely necessary to begin with.
Outside of school, Emily is still fun and carefree. She can often be seen in the garden, looking for specimens to feed her pet spider, or sitting on a bench sketching flowers. She's a very laid-back kind of person, and it radiates off of her. She tries to bring happiness to everyone she encounters.
Emily does have a very emotional side to counteract her usual happiness. Though this side is rarely seen, when it does appear, it can be very violent and damaging. After enduring a LOT of stress, Emily has a tendency to become reserved, not talking to anyone and keeping to herself. When she's not teaching in this state, she often stays in her room, reading or writing and always drowning everything out with her classical music. These phases can last up to a few weeks, but when they go away, it's as if they never existed.
Where I Began
Mother: Anastasia Bryde
Father: Matthew Bryde
Siblings: Simon Bryde - deceased, Spencer Bryde
Other Relatives: .Several relatives that she left behind in England
Pets: A tarantula, Arachne, who sits in a cage on her desk.
Friends: The other faculty at Yen Sid.
History: Emily was the second child born to Anastasia and Matthew Bryde in a small corner of London, England. Her parents were not very wealthy, but they did the best they could to provide for their children, especially Emily's younger brother, Simon, who was born with several medical complications. The Bryde family was very close and old-fashioned, eating dinner together and going on family outings once a week.
Emily's father, an author, inspired her to read and write in her spare time. She was very good at it, but her teachers never took notice of her talent, telling her that she was better of doing something practical to help her family. Though discouraged by the lack of encouragement, Emily continued writing, selling a few of her works to help provide for her family while her older brother, with whom she was very close, sold his paintings for the same reasons.
All seemed to be going well until Emily's mother lost her job as a seamstress working in a textile factory. Without a steady source of income, the family quickly began facing financial problems. Unable to pay for his medical bills, Simon succumbed to his illnesses and died. All seemed bleak for the family.
Emily and Spencer were forced to drop out of school and find jobs to help support the family. The days were long and hard, but Emily always kept a positive outlook on life. One day, a wealthy relative of the family stopped by to pay respects for the deceased Simon. Upon discovering Emily's talent, she immediately shipped the girl off to preparatory school, where Emily excelled in English and writing.
Emily's school days were lonely without her family, but she was determined to make something of herself and make her struggling family proud.
After graduating, Emily began traveling abroad with the money granted to her after her wealthy relative passed away. She settled in the States, teaching at several community colleges before settling on Yen Sid Academy, applying to teach English. She was granted the job, and is quite happy. She still keeps correspondence with her family, especially her brother, now a skilled painter, and sends them money every chance she gets.
