Who I Am Inside
Likes: quiet, peace, the safety of being inside, consistency, family, friends, control, good grades, the sun, the idea of true love, reading, foreign languages (although he struggles to understand a lot of them), sitting on the grass, drawing, poetry, math, science (it explains so much).
Dislikes: His ticks, the unknown, danger, spontaneous people, noise, pranks, tests (he gets nervous), rain (he hates the feeling of being wet), heart break, horror movies, chaos, action movies, theater (people pop out all the time... its too unpredictable), chemistry (you could blow up!), cursing, sign language (he struggles to get it right), public speaking (what if he gets a tick), snobs, being judged, being weak.
Strengths: smart, strong, sweet, cautious, can understand several languages, helpful, well spoken, can explain himself quite well in written words.
Weaknesses: Can lose control over his own body, can't handle pressure, his fears, hopelessly romantic, overly cautious, a bit childish for his age, gets lost in a good book, struggles to trust new people.
Fears: The outdoors, the unknown, losing control of himself, failing, being judged, never finding love, hurting someone, getting hurt.
Personality: Fredwick is a generally loving person on the outside. He will be nice to you so long as you are nice to him. But inside he is judging you and trying not to get to close for fear of being rejected or forgotten or used. He will most likely grow fond of you over time once he trusts you but you need to earn his trust before he does. He doesn't mean bad by it but he always worries begin rejected for his condition and being forgotten because of it. He fears being alone more than almost anything else.
Fredwick has no control over his body or his words at times due to tourettes syndrome. As a result of this, he tries to find control in his life in whatever way he can. He goes to such extremes as avoiding the outdoors as much as possible for fear of breaking the norm. Anything that is not precise or easy to figure out he tries to avoid as he hates those things he has no control over. As much as he hated his need for control in everything around him, he hates his lack of control even more.
Despite this seeming paranoia over controlling his life, Fredwick wants to be normal and like every other teen. He wants a girl friend and friends and to go out and hang. He just needs someone to pull him out of his shell and show him that sometimes he doesn't need to have control and things will still be okay. Until that person comes along though, he will continue to be twitchy about any situation and fear what you'll think of his quirks.

History: Fredwick was born to a wealthy white South African family shortly after the shift in power in South Africa. His family welcomed the bouncing bundle of joy and was pleased to have a child. They had tried many times and failed in their attempts. This joy was short lived though. Fredwick began having violent seizures and many other problems and his life was threatened several times in his first year or so of life. Believing the boy would be dead, a nurse gave him the name Lefu, meaning death. His family thought nothing of this name and adopted it as his middle name, thinking it was a sign of hope and good faith.
After this frightening time, Fredwick seemed stable and so his parents believed it was time to try to have another child. All their attempts failed and they soon learned that they could not have another child. To make matters worse, it was soon discovered that Fredwick was not fine but instead had a disorder called Tourettes syndrome. This along with a slight case of Asperger's disorder made it quite hard for Fredwick to fit in and live a normal childhood. He struggled to develop good social skills and struggled to keep friends with his violent fits of uncontrolled screaming or kicking or flailing. His parents struggled with their loving child but would not give up on him.
As Fredwick grew, he worked hard to try and learn ways to control his ticks and make friends. ALthough some of these plans failed, he did manage to gain enough control to live a somewhat normal life. That is, until he was 12. On the date of his twelfth birthday he went home to find his father curled up on the floor crying. His father had always been strong and so Fredwick knew something horrible had to have happened. His mother had been killed by a driver who had sped through a red light. Fredwick's orderly life quickly spun out of control and things grew worse than they had ever been before.
Fredwick no longer had control over his emotions or his body and he no longer cared about friends or school. His grades began slipping and he stopped wanting anything to do with school or his father or anyone. He fell into a state of extreme depression and one morning was found unconscious in his room with a bottle of pills in his hand. His father rushed him to the hospital, fearing he would lose what was left of his family.
Fredwick survived and was put on psychiatric watch for a while. Once he proved stable and was placed on some meds to stabilize him, he went home. But, for once in his life Fredwick realized that he needed a change. He loved his father dearly but he couldn't walk around the house or the neighborhood without seeing his mother everywhere. Once he proved he would be ok on his own and his grades had improved, Fredwick applied to Yen Sid academy. It was in a quiet town in New Hampshire so how unusual could it be?
After two months of waiting, Fredwick received his acceptance letter and began preparing for his journey to a new country and a new school to start a new life. He began at Yen Sid Academy at the age of 14 and had overcome many struggles to stay there. He still struggles with his ticks and making friends but he is much happier here than he was at home. He writes his father quite often to show him that everything is okay and otherwise continues with his new routine. He is now a junior and getting anxious about Senior year. Is he ready to leave his safe haven of a school or will he end up back home? Only time will tell.
